When I am meditating, I imagine myself on a hill, with the sun shining through clear skies, with a soft breeze. I’m not necessarily paying attention to anything but my breath in rhythm with the wind I imagine around me.
I feel a connection with the floor/ground beneath me, and take time to apprentice the moments of peace that come with recentering myself.
When I was in the Judean Desert visiting Masada, I took a moment to look at the desert towards the Dead Sea where everything just, disappears. The sea becomes the sky at some point.
With the Tristram’s Starlings singing and flying around me, blended horizons in all directions, and standing on ancient ground with a rich history – this quickly became my go-to spot for me to sit in my mind.

Calgary – Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a location I went to to take photos in November, just as it was reaching chillier temperatures. I hadn’t heard of this place prior to this visit, so it was interesting to see what was here.
Unfortunately I did not see many birds, however I was struck by the abundance of gnarly trees with peculiar branches, and the seemingly untouched remains of flood damage. This blend of annual autumn debris, fallen trees, and remaining summer growths provided a curious environment to shoot in.
